Don't Squander the Wander!

A refuge for all who are wandering through the wilderness and tethered to the truth

God’s Timing

It’s been a long day, and the pantry is bare. The fridge is mostly empty and the half full jar of pickles hiding in the back corner is lonely. Somehow, mouths at home have to be fed. Off to the big box store land of provision, to choose from the umpteen million versions of breakfast cereal or fresh produce or whatever it is on our list. We get through the routine, in a maze of aisles that seemingly go on forever. We might just find ourselves wanting to curl up in the fetal position and take a little nap by the frozen waffles. Glancing at the time we bee-line it for the row of cashiers.

Buggy full of frozen things, fresh finds, and a schedule that is screaming for us to hit the road, the most important choice awaits. Which line do we choose? I don’t know about you, but I always seem to pick the wrong line. You know, the slowest one. Price check at register five! Or whatever it is that holds up progress.

Lately it seems God is showing me and hubs just how powerful His timing is, and how much waiting on God’s perfect timing makes a difference. In everything. While its great when God answers quickly, almost like He just moves us to the front of the line somehow, that isn’t always the case in this game of life.

What about when we have to wait? Longer than we ever imagined?

Yeah, nobody likes to wait in line. Or wait extra days. Or wait for a response. But God always has a plan. For your good.

Waiting is the holding place for the work of Jesus to have maximum impact.

Even if our waffles start to defrost a little. One day soon a yummy breakfast will sustain.

Even if our patience is cultivated a little more than we want. Waiting for the produce to reach optimal ripeness is worth it.

Even when we don’t get the job, don’t have the resources, or don’t have the mental energy for the challenge we face. God is aware of our need.

Jesus still hears every prayer and is moving on your behalf. The answer is coming. Wait for it!

If we jump ahead of Jesus, trying to “help Him out”, He just might let us. And, when we show up before the right time, we might just see an empty scenario that isn’t prepared for what we want to contribute. Like heading to the grocery store only to find out they don’t have our favorite item, and the designated shelf is empty. The delivery truck hasn’t arrived yet. Check back in a couple of days. Ugh. Rushing ahead to avoid the wait, we wind up waiting anyway. Funny how that happens.

On the other hand, if we seek wisdom from the Holy Spirit, and are open to a little holy hibernation, we align with the ways of God and the path He has prepared for our victory.

Our answer.

Our healing.

His timing.

God’s perfect timing joins with our willingness to follow His lead, and our availability to be used by the Lord in whatever capacity He desires. His timing brings forth the sweetest outcomes, and most powerful testimonies.

It is so beautiful when this faith building scene happens within a seemingly ordinary day with ordinary things, giving us the opportunity to glorify God for working in extraordinary ways.

Waiting on God today? Seek the Lord for what He has for you as you wait, and ask the Holy Spirit to show you the timing for whatever is on your heart. He is faithful. He is a right on time God.

  1. I love your writings. The wording hits home so often. Waiting on God is not easy but through experience, it proves to be the best option for the best results. 💕
