Saying yes to God is a tricky thing. It doesn’t mean that we say, yes, God, I will help you out. Let me tell you what I’ve decided and how I’ve set the goals. The God of All Creation has no need of our helpful hints. He’s looking for willing hearts. To be open. Available. Vulnerable. Transparent. Resolute on His name getting spoken. His fame getting spread. His glory celebrated in the heavenlies. His truth being the tether and plumb line and measure and rule.
It is Jesus we cling to. It is Jesus we lead to. It is Jesus and His shed blood, His resurrection power, and His redemption that make the difference.
Jesus calls us. Beckons us. Whispers into our spirit, dear child, I want you. I love you. I can use you, even in your brokenness. Especially in your brokenness. See that downcast soul over there? I am bringing you to them. Listen. Love. Encourage. Get out of your own way and let me move through you. Let my Holy Spirit guide you. Empower you. Equip you. Comfort you. Lead you into all truth.
In the power of Jesus and the equipping of the Holy Spirit, with God’s call and purpose propelling you, you will do things much greater than you could ever imagine. You will move mountains, leading the lost, lonely, and hurting to the throne room. You will show others the why and how you believe, and the who that has changed your life. You may even share the when and where of transformational moments in your story.
At the end of any exchange, when God has moved, the holy driven result will be the same…you will be overwhelmed that God would allow you to be a part of all that happened on His hallowed ground. You will be humbled to see that anything you could have said or been or felt or done could have brought anyone even one step further to salvation and a hope of a future.
This is evangelism. This is discipleship. Not a script or a tract or a film or a song.
God calls us to walk along side the exact people He puts in our path, and to spend time and show love and be love and cling to love. His love.
In that perfect love we find hope, and joy, and peace, and understanding. His understanding.
Tethered to His word, His principles, His grace and mercy, and His truth. Perfect truth.
In learning to lean and then stand on the truth of God we are able to face any problem, for yes, we will have problems. We will learn to lean on others who are also learning to stand on God’s promises. Together, as we lean in and learn, side by side, we begin to see the beauty of God’s big picture. His hope and a future for us.
Regardless of what lies behind us or before us, we know our Redeemer lives. If He lives, so shall we. If He is free, we shall be free indeed. If He rose from the dead, we will too. If Jesus is preparing a place for us, we know He is faithful and true. It will be waiting for us. So will He. Open arms with scars in His hands, saying dear child, it’s been a journey. I saw every hard day, every tough challenge. I sent you sweet love notes in the form of friends and kind strangers. I sent you my Spirit to comfort and guide you. I gave all I could so you could be free. Welcome home, my child.
