Hanging out at the breakfast table, Hubs reaches for an article to read. Oops. Can’t see clearly. Now, where are those readers? Glancing around, none in sight. I know I have a dozen pairs of dollar store helpers around this house, but where did I carry them?
He gets up, searches a bit, finds three pairs of magnifiers by his lounge chair. Back to the table, he slides on the specs, and reads the info at hand. His solution fits his needs, because his problem is straight forward and easily addressed. Success.
Each one of us has unique needs. Your eyewear prescription is most likely quite different than mine. Sure, we can go down to the drugstore and pick up a pile of generic magnifiers, and that might get us through mid-age reading fog, but that singular solution won’t work for everyone.
I’ve spent a lifetime stirring from deep sleep, squinting at the clock, wishing those numbers were in focus. Guessing the time, and finally asking the one next to me who can see clearly, I calculate how many more minutes I’ve got before we must rise and shine. Different issue, life-long challenge, and a more precise answer to be able to see digits and details in daily life. Thankful for solutions and specialists who know how to bring life into focus. My specific myopia is mine, all mine. No options at the corner store for me. Gotta get those special helps for my special eyes, lol.
We have been through this scenario of spectacle search a time or two. Me, the life-long reader wrangler, I know where my one pair of necessary lenses are. Never far from my eyeballs, my glasses are usually easy to find. I only have a singular pair because the prescription is precise, and pricy.
Funny thing is, there are times, usually enveloped in a sleepy haze, Hubs will reach for my glasses, if I happen to leave them unattended. It only takes a minute for him to realize they aren’t right. Exact opposite of his needs, actually. So, what goes from a quick grab to an unintentional install results in an instant realization of incompatibility.
My glasses won’t work on your face.
Isn’t that like our approach to faith, if we aren’t careful? We don’t have a one size fits all life. We need to be careful not to hastily grab for the first foggy solution in our reach. What is good for the goose is not always good for the gander. If we try to solve a distinct problem with the world’s cheap unmeasured option, we usually find the fit pinches and focus is skewed. Sure, the world’s advice might seem sufficient, but is it? We are much more effective finding the One who has the right solution for our specific need. The One who understands the problem and has already created the solution that will not just help, but pinpoint heal.
God is God over all, and He truly is all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present. Here for us in the unique issues we encounter. The Holy Spirit helps us see with the clarity, peace, and power of Jesus. Leads us to Him. Guides us to the One who saves, delivers, and loves us deeper than any earthly relationship.
His love fits our face.
