The Dance

Yeah, so I’m that girl. The one who cries at every father/daughter dance at a wedding reception. Not just a little tear brushed off my cheek. Oh, no. The ugly cry. The big tears, shuddering shoulders, and an occasional sound of the boo hoo. These are tears of joy, mind you. A visceral response to the love a dad has for his little girl. A joy that she knows the love of her father.

There is something to this reaction, this spiritual thing that our gut knows much better than our brain. The Father in heaven lavishes His love on us much more than any earthly love ever could.

In a moment of celebration, a wedding feast, we see an earthly father lavish his love on his daughter as he entrusts her to the one she is betrothed.

Our hearts beat to that drum long before we are created in our mother’s womb. It is the singular beat that keeps our heart alive. This love, this quest for the One who loves us completely, wholly, unabashedly.

When we find that love, in the Father in heaven, He too looks upon our gleaming faces with pleasure as He knows we have chosen His Son, the One who will safely carry us home. The One who paid the price, who gave all He could, for our sake. The purest of loves. The deepest of loves.
